Hiking suggestions

The farmhouse hike

The farmhouse hiking trips present themselves as wonderful tours to start with. Following path number 5 until you reach the pilgrimage chapel 'Lengeria'. Then walk to the Wolfsgrube (this is where in 1822 the last wolf was caught). Soon you will reach the ‘Schillerhof', where you can enjoy a snack. From here, you make your way to the ‘Hagneralm', which gives you impressive views of the Rosengarten and Latemar. After 30 minutes, you will arrive at the Jocherhof, which has a very cosy and unique lounge. Path number 4C leads you to the valley terminal Laurin 1 and on a beautiful forest path, you will return to the Berghaus.
Total walking time: approx. 4 hours

The Hanickerschwaige

One of the most beautiful tours is the path to the Hanickerschwaige. You can take path number 7 from the Nigerpass and walk via the Baumannschwaige. If you are an experienced walker, you can start your trip in Welschnofen. First walk through the forest, across blooming meadows and soon you will arrive at the foot of Laurin's Wall. Mighty stone pine, cartilaginous pine and in autumn yellow-coloured larch trees will make your way interesting and varied. At the highest point, you will be able to look down into the Bozen valley basin, towards the Ortler mountain and Brenta mountain group - and if you turn around - you will have the majestic rocky walls of the Rosengarten and the peaks of the Vaiolet towers right in front of you. Enjoy a snack in the comfortable Hanickerschwaige; the knodel and speck are delicious. Strengthened by this meal, you can make your return journey the same way you came or you can descend via St. Zyprian and take the bus back to Welschnofen or the Nigerpass.
Total walking time: approx. 5 hours

The Labyrinth

From the Karer Pass, a path leads you through the evidently most beautiful forest in Europe. Take path number 20 and step (literally) into a labyrinth. Discover huge blocks of rock, a small path, miniature plants and have a peak at the Latemar mountain in the distance, which is right in front of you - mighty and dismissive! Once you arrive at the Mitterleger, look out for a beautiful place to rest and enjoy your packed lunch. While eating, enjoy the view of the cross on the Latemar Peak and envisage yourself up there. The return journey is comfortable and leads you on path number 21 back to the Karer Pass.
Walking time: approx. 2 hours

The Gamsstallscharte

Demanding, but also very impressive is the tour to the Gamsstallscharte. Take the bus to Obereggen. From here, the chair lift facility at Oberholz will transport you to an altitude of 2,096 metres. Follow path number 18 across a steep meadow slope and check out the Rhaethian Alpine poppy, which grows between the stones. Once you reach the Gamsstallscharte, you enter into a seemingly unread world of towers and blocks of rock and peaks. As soon as you have ‘conquered' the Gamsstallscharte, you come to the Valsorda basin and see the Latemar Peak in the distance. After a short period of time, you will arrive at a sloped rocky tower called Torre di Pisa, and there you will find the small, but comfortable Pisa hut. After another glance around this wonderful mountain world, start your ascent, which is laced with nearly unlimited Edelweiss flowers. Depending on the season, you can also find Alpine roses, martagon lily, arnica, gentian and many other types of mountain flowers. Via path number 22, you will return to the Oberholzlift.
Total walking time: approx. 6 hours
