insider tips
Cycle over a mountain pass. Hike to the top of a peak. Or get a taste of culture in Bolzano. There is so much to see! And even more to experience.
moreSomething new every day, that’s our motto – since 1999, when paterfamilias Horst took over in the kitchen. And it’s the same today, although Veronika has now taken charge there. Our values are creativity, variety and regionality, with something new every day: whether for breakfast, for dinner – or in between.
Homemade means what we can make ourselves – with what comes from or is grown in the Eggental valley and South Tyrol. In summer it’s straight from the garden, fields or fruit trees and onto the table, with fresh Grander water straight from the tap and wine from local winemakers. There’s a new type of muesli each morning, a new little treat every afternoon – and, in the evening, a culinary treat to round off the day. The cooking at the Berghaus sets the tone for your whole holiday!
Variety? Of course: our breakfast buffet looks different every day. The most popular choices are always available, naturally, but everything else is crafted anew overnight. Homemade muesli, fresh fruit juices, warming organic teas and tasty local cold meats; cheese and eggs from the farm, honey from our own bees and delicious spreads – not to mention all sorts of fruit, cakes and even organic coffee. A new breakfast every day – the perfect start to a new day’s holiday!
We love to serve up a decent dinner. And we also love to experiment. But, above all, we love to surprise you with our wide range of dishes! That’s why our dinners are always different: sometimes vegetarian, sometimes from the fish farm in the Passeier Valley, sometimes served on an étagère. Pepper soup, spelt salad, homemade pasta, braised lamb – and homemade white chocolate ice cream! All paired with the right wines. All guaranteed to tickle your taste buds!
Every creative dish can be paired with the right wine. Whether a white, a red, a rosé, a cuvée – light, heavy, fruity or dry. The wine list at the Berghaus is as varied as the food we serve: there are over 50 different labels to choose from, mainly from South Tyrol, of course. And the sommelier? That’s the hostess herself, Judith. She knows the menu, she knows the wine list, and she knows just how to combine the two. Cheers!
A helping hand is always welcome – and that’s exactly what we get from the farmers in Welschnofen and the Eggental Valley. Their love for nature ensures that we get fresh fruit and vegetables every day, especially in summer. And, whatever the season, we stress the importance of either growing the ingredients and the produce that we use ourselves, or sourcing them from South Tyrolean producers – thus supporting local and regional cycles, all while making your mouth water! Meaning you can look forward to dinner, breakfast – and everything in between.
