The walk up to the Rotwandhütte mountain hut at the Rosengarten massif starts from the Karerpass car park. You’ll need at least three hours to walk up and back down again. The first part of the tour takes you to a flowery meadow via a steep road. After that, the route mainly winds through mountain pastures and is not short of incredible views, including the Marmolada, the Vallaccia peak and occasionally the valley below.

The last, narrow part of the tour, up to the Rotwandhütte mountain hut at 2,283m, takes you through the rocky Rosengarten terrain.

Once you get to the top, you’ll be able to re-energise with a meal at the traditional mountain hut. The route is number 548 and is well-signposted. Your overall elevation gain for this mountain tour will be 525m.
One last tip: if you want to, it’s also worth climbing the clifftop next to the Rotwand. From there, you’ll have a view down into the Val di Fassa valley on the Trentino side of the Karerpass.
